Wallet Troubleshooting and Regeneration
If trades aren't executing and you've tried everything else, your wallet may need to be regenerated. Here's how to safely do that - and why you should always have your private key backed up.
When to Consider Wallet Regeneration
Try regeneration only after checking these first:
| Issue | Try This First |
|---|---|
| Trades not copying | Check balance, pause status, filters |
| Balance not showing | Wait 1-2 minutes, refresh page |
| Trades stuck pending | Contact support, may be queue issue |
| Can't deposit | Verify you're sending USDC on Polygon |
If none of these help and trades consistently fail, wallet regeneration may fix it.
Step 1: Export Your Private Key (IMPORTANT!)
Before doing anything, back up your current wallet:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Trading Wallet
- Click "Export Private Key"
- Copy and save it somewhere safe (password manager, secure note)
This is critical! If you have any remaining USDC or open positions, you need this key to access them later.
Step 2: Withdraw All Funds
Before regenerating, move your funds out:
Option A: Withdraw to External Wallet
- Go to Settings → Withdraw
- Enter your external wallet address (MetaMask, Coinbase, etc.)
- Enter the amount (or click "Max")
- Confirm the withdrawal
Option B: Use Private Key Directly
If withdrawal isn't working:
- Import your private key to MetaMask (see "Login to Polymarket" article)
- Send USDC directly from MetaMask to your external wallet
- This bypasses Polyfollow entirely
Step 3: Regenerate Your Wallet
Once funds are withdrawn:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Trading Wallet
- Click "Regenerate Wallet"
- Confirm the action
- A new wallet address will be created
Your copy settings, followed traders, and account all stay the same. Only the wallet address changes.
Step 4: Deposit to New Wallet
- Copy your new wallet address from Settings
- Send USDC (Polygon) to this new address
- Wait for confirmation (1-2 minutes)
- Start copytrading again!
Why Export Your Private Key?
Your private key is your master access to your wallet. Keep it backed up because:
| Reason | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Direct access | Access funds even if Polyfollow is down |
| Wallet recovery | Restore access from any device |
| External trading | Use MetaMask to trade on Polymarket directly |
| Emergency withdrawal | Move funds if something goes wrong |
| Portfolio management | Connect to DeFi apps, portfolio trackers |
Using Your Private Key Externally
Once exported, you can use your wallet anywhere:
Import to MetaMask
- Open MetaMask
- Click account icon → "Add account" → "Import account"
- Paste your private key
- Your wallet is now in MetaMask
What You Can Do
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Check balance | View in MetaMask or Polygonscan |
| Send USDC | Transfer to any address |
| Trade on Polymarket | Login with MetaMask |
| Use DeFi apps | Connect wallet to any Polygon dApp |
| Track portfolio | Connect to Zapper, DeBank, etc. |
When Wallet Corruption Happens
Wallet issues can occur due to:
| Cause | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Nonce desync | Transactions stuck or fail |
| Approval issues | Can't trade on certain markets |
| State corruption | Balance shows wrong, trades fail |
Regenerating creates a fresh wallet with no history, fixing these issues.
After Regeneration Checklist
| Step | Status |
|---|---|
| Old wallet private key backed up | |
| All funds withdrawn from old wallet | |
| New wallet address copied | |
| USDC deposited to new wallet | |
| Copytrading resumed |
FAQ
Will I lose my positions?
Open positions stay on the blockchain. Export your old private key and you can still manage them via MetaMask.
Do I need to re-follow traders?
No! Your copy settings stay intact. Only the wallet changes.
Can I switch back to my old wallet?
No, but with the private key exported, you always have access to it externally.
What if I forgot to export before regenerating?
Your old wallet still exists on the blockchain. If you have the private key, you can access it. If not, those funds may be lost.
Pro Tips
- Export your private key immediately after signup - don't wait for problems
- Store it securely - password manager, not a text file on your desktop
- Test the export - import to MetaMask once to confirm it works
- Keep minimal balance - don't keep more than you need for active trading
- Contact support first - we may be able to fix the issue without regeneration
